A man shot dead another man at a day care center in Quebec then killed himself, and the 53 children present were evacuated unharmed. Police said some may have watched the killings. Cold weather has once again pushed back the peak bloom date for the hundreds of cherry blossom trees around the DC Tidal Basin. The peak bloom prediction for the Tidal Basin cherry blossom trees has been updated for a second time by the National Park Service. Now the 2013 cherry blossom peak bloom is expected April 6-8. NPS initially estimated that a peak bloom would arrive March 26-30 and then changed that prediction to April 3 through 6 after a bout of cold weather in March. Trappedinca March 22, 2013 On September 12, 2001 I was outside my Bay Area house hanging our flag at half mast when a black child about 10 years old rode his bike past me yelling Fuck America over and over. A few days later a neighbor, who is an Hispanic attorney, told me that I was over-reacting to 9/11 and that terrorist attacks like this happened all over the world all the time. She suggested I “get over it.” That was when I realized I would have to leave CA. Unfortunately, the malaise I always think of as being indigenous to CA has infected the whole country at this point.
