But that's because it hit "too near the bone."Just a few months ago, Glenn Beck called a Jon Stewart impersonation of himself "hilarious," but on his Tuesday morning radio show, the pundit who used to call himself a "clown" ripped into the Comedy Central host for letting his act grow "tired."Referring to Monday's Daily Show, Huffington Post's Katla McGlynn blogs that "the best part of the ...

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A new TV ad from the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org goes after Target Corp. for making a political campaign donation in Minnesota. MoveOn.org spokeswoman Ilyse Hogue said Tuesday that the group will spend $35,000 to air the ad for a week on three networks in Minnesota and on the MSNBC cable channel nationally. The ad starts running Wednesday. A Target spokeswoman declined to comment. The ad urges consumers to boycott Target for getting involved in elections. Minneapolis-based Target has faced a backlash from gay rights groups and liberals after giving $150,000 to a political fund supporting Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer in Minnesota. The company ...
Former President Bush Won't Comment On Ground Zero Mosque Post Date: 2010-08-17 12:30:22 by Brian S

The man who was president during the 9/11 attacks won't be sharing his views on the Ground Zero mosque proposal. Several Republican leaders have denounced plans for an Islamic cultural center and mosque near Ground Zero in New York City. But a spokesman for former President George W. Bush told AOL News that Bush would not comment on the matter. Now that it has become a full-scale national controversy and campaign issue with President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and dozens of Republican candidates across the country in 2010 weighing in Bush's silence on the plans could become deafening the longer the debate wears on. An endorsement of the plans ...

LAS VEGAS -- The Tea Party of Nevada's candidate for U.S. Senate, Scott Ashjian, announced Monday that he is re-entering the race to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Ashjian told FOX5 that he had at first supported Republican candidate Sharron Angle, but after she made several gaffes after winning the June primary, he decided to give voters another choice. "I think there's enough disgruntled Democrats and Republicans to make up the difference," he said. "I felt as the (Angle) campaign progressed and as I watched her throughout this campaign, that she completely got off message." Ashjian said he believes he is now the only candidate who can beat Reid ...

She was pencil-thin and so weak from mental and physical abuse, she needed help getting up stairs. Her husband kept her under video surveillance 24 hours a day, a virtual prisoner in her own home, and once held a knife to her throat. This Jordanian woman found refuge in the Surayya Anne Foundation home, Tulsa's only Muslim women's shelter. She is now separated from her husband, who remains in Tulsa, and is back with her family in Jordan. Since it opened in May 2009, the modest, three-bedroom, two-bath apartment in south Tulsa has housed 15 women, most of them Muslims, and their 10 children, some for a few days, others for a few months. Some sought shelter because they were being ...
Breaking: Hamas sides with Obama, endorses mosque! Post Date: 2010-08-16 22:40:53 by WhiteSands

The angle here is that one of the criticisms of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind the Islamic center, is that he refused to call Hamas a terrorist organiztion. And here's Hamas standing up for the Imam's mosque, in firm agreement with Obama. Hamas, Rauf, and Obama all agree: Build the mosque! In reality, of course, Obama did not "endorse" the Islamic center. Rauf is widely seen as a moderate, and he has condemned terrorism. And here's what Rauf actually said about Hamas: "I'm not a politician. I try to avoid the issues. The issue of terrorism is a very complex question...I'm a bridge builder. I define my work as a bridge builder. I do not want to be ...

50 percent of voters said they disapprove of the way President Obama is handling his job, according to Gallup's daily tracking poll. Half of voters, the first time voters have registered such an opinion during his presidency, said they disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job. Forty-two percent said they approved of the president's job performance. The approval number is an all-time low in the daily tracking poll, a rolling average of surveys of registered voters over the last three days. By contrast, Obama's highest ever approval rating came in late June of 2009, when 69 percent of voters said they approved of the job he was doing. The Gallup numbers come as ...

Believe it or not, the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination is already underway in Iowa. Potential candidates like Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich are already making frequent visits to the state that hosts the First-In-The-Nation Caucuses. While most people, including most Iowans, think that there is plenty of time before the 2012 presidential campaign will be in full swing, the clock is already counting down to caucus day 2012. What these candidates realize that most people dont comprehend yet is that the first contest is the Iowa Straw Poll, which is now less than a year away. The Iowa Straw Poll is an event sponsored by the Republican Party of ...

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he plans to leave his job next year. A Republican and holdover from the Bush administration, Gates had agreed to stay on at the request of President Barack Obama. The move was intended to maintain stability at a time of two wars, although Gates has been open about his desire to return to civilian life in his home state of Washington. In an interview published Monday, Gates told Foreign Policy magazine that leaving in 2011 makes sense. It would give him time to oversee the major offensive under way in Afghanistan but bow out before the 2012 presidential elections. Gates has been defense secretary since December 2006.

Sharron Angle, the Tea Bagger running against Harry Reid for the Senate in Nevada says that we should use Augusto Pinochets model of privatization as a guide for reforming our social security system. Yes, Pinochet, the infamous fascist dictator and Nixon/Kissinger ally who engineered the subjugation of Chilean democracy in the 1970s. Sharron Angle On Unemployment Pinochet seized power from the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende in a bloody, US backed military coup détat in 1973. Newt Gingrich's Skeletons: His Past Wives Post Date: 2010-08-14 21:09:52 by Brian S

Newt Gingrich is a phoenix. He's risen again and again from political ashes and appears to be ascendant once more. Rumored to be running for president in 2012, Gingrich is an icon in the Republican Party, an eminence grise at a time of lost leadership. His fall from grace in the late 1990s seems a blip, rather than a political ending. Thus the cover story in Esquire Magazine, September issue, written by John H. Richardson. If anyone knows something about Newt Gingrich, it is his former wife, Marianne, and Richardson scored an interview with her. She is someone with a bone to pick, one that stems from the ending of their 18-year marriage with an affair. She knows a lot, and has never ...

The pitch came at the end of Rand Pauls conference call with 2,000 potential supporters: Go online to donate to Paul, the Kentucky Republican Senate candidate who is courting Tea Party activists. Or press seven to give $25 to FreedomWorks, the advocacy organization headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey that sponsored the July 13 call, said Matt Kibbe, the groups president. Even as candidates such as Paul tout their anti- establishment credentials, much of their financial clout comes from veteran Republicans such as Armey, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint and onetime U.S. Representative Chris Chocola, who aim to reshape their ...
Grim Voter Mood Turns Grimmer; Pessimism Rises on Economy and War; Bad Reviews for Both Democrats and GOP Post Date: 2010-08-12 11:33:42 by Brian S

Americans are growing more pessimistic about the economy and the war in Afghanistan, and are losing faith that Democrats have better solutions than Republicans, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. [NBCpol_NS] Underpinning the gloom: Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the economy has yet to hit bottom, a sharply higher percentage than the 53% who felt that way in January. The sour national mood appears all-encompassing and is dragging down ratings for the GOP too, suggesting voters above all are disenchanted with the political establishment in Washington. Just 24% express positive feelings about the Republican Party, a new low in the 21-year history of the ...

Tuesday, Reps. That tour, which includes stops in Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is designed by the public diplomacy office to explain to Muslims abroad what it's like to be a Muslim in America. Outside of how getting constantly called a radical by American politicians busy flacking the proposed "Ground Zero mosque" for political purposes might affect ...

It wasn't surprising to see two Jewish groups among the signers of a letter supporting a House resolution criticizing the Texas State Board of Education for promoting a public school social studies curriculum that might be more appropriate for a Sunday school or church camp. It was surprising that there weren't more Jewish groups willing to criticize a Texas public school system that has added a whole new dimension to the endless church-state wars by essentially rewriting U.S. history and throwing the whole concept of church-state separation in the scrapheap. The resolution was sponsored by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Tex); it charges that the state school board ...
