Seventeen conservative Republican members of Congress—10 of them in their first or second terms—are bucking long-time party positions and the new occupant of the White House. They announced on Wednesday that they’re supporting a clear statement about the risks associated with climate change, as well as principles for how best to fight it.Called the “Republican Climate Resolution” by supporters, the statement by House members takes about 450 words to mention conservative thought on environmentalism, support for climate science, feared impacts, and a call for economically viable policy. They pledge in general terms to support study and mitigation measures, ...

A Lancaster County man was convicted of obstructing the Internal Revenue Service and failing to file tax returns on Tuesday after not filing his taxes for decades. James Kerr Schlosser, 59, of Bird-in-Hand, purposely stopped filing federal income tax returns in 1995. Schlosser, a manufacturer's representative for companies that sold medical equipment and surgical devices to various health care providers, had accrued approximately $2.3 million from 1994 to 2014. Schlosser faces up to five years in prison, a fine of $450,000 and the cost of prosecution. United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl is scheduled to sentence Schlosser on June 10, 2017. the Republican Senator from Kentucky, Rand Paul, has tweeted out that he is currently being blocked by armed guards from viewing new, and the secretly kept Obamacare bill. It was hours earlier that Paul tweeted that he heard that the Obamacare bill, being touted as Obamacare-lite by critics, is ” under lock & key, in a secure location, & not available for me or the public to view.” I have been told that the House Obamacare bill is under lock & key, in a secure location, & not available for me or the public to view. — Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) March 2, 2017 The liberty minded Senator did not take kindly to this information and made his intention to ...

Florida's Government Built a Train — And It Didn’t Go Well (SunRail)

The state of Florida is well known for many things: beautiful beaches, outrageous headlines, and being the setting for the wacky antics of the Golden Girls. In Florida’s fascinating history, perhaps no figure stands taller than the great Walt Disney, who transformed unwanted swampland into Disney World, forever changing central Florida from swamp and farmland into one of the premier vacation destinations in the world. Disney’s example is an incredible demonstration of what a man can accomplish with vision, work-ethic, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.Unfortunately too many politicians have all sorts of great visions, but think government power is a fine ...

Ex-congregants reveal years of ungodly abuse

SPINDALE, N.C. (AP) — From all over the world, they flocked to this tiny town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, lured by promises of inner peace and eternal life. What many found instead: years of terror — waged in the name of the Lord. Congregants of the Word of Faith Fellowship were regularly punched, smacked, choked, slammed to the floor or thrown through walls in a violent form of deliverance meant to “purify” sinners by beating out devils, 43 former members told The Associated Press in separate, exclusive interviews. Victims of the violence included pre-teens and toddlers — even crying babies, who were vigorously shaken, screamed at and sometimes ...

Bannon 'livid' with Breitbart over Priebus report
Post Date: 2017-02-15 17:45:50 by Willie Green

Bannon, who was executive chairman of Breitbart before becoming Donald Trump's chief strategist, slammed the right-wing website on Wednesday for a report suggesting that White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus might lose his job. "Not upset - livid," is how Bannon described his feelings about the article to CNN. "The story is totally untrue. Reince is doing a great job. I couldn't ask any more from a partner." Breitbart's story alleged that Priebus might be pushed out of the White House due to the forced resignation of Trump's National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn. It cited "multiple sources close to President Trump." When asked if ...

The Guardian has pulled together five pieces from conservatives and libertarians who are critical of President Donald Trump's authoritarian tendencies and policies. I'm happy to be represented in the mix (for my commentary about Trump's awful, inhumane, and idiotic ban on refugees and travelers from seven countries tied to terrorism). It's a good mix of people, including some conservative critics (The New York Time's Ross Douthat, National Review's David French, Commentary's Noah Rothman) and Steve Horwitz of Bleeding Heart Libertarians along with yours truly. Here's a snippet from my piece: That's certainly the case with Trump and his orders on ...

Stephen Miller's credibility is rapidly running out President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Sunday morning to praise his senior policy adviser Stephen Miller for his televised defenses of the president. But critics have pointed to a series of troubling statements by Miller that displayed contempt for basic constitutional principles and, like Trump’s more prominent spokesperson Kellyanne Conway, reek of dishonesty.“It’s so much worse than I thought,” Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” said Monday. Brzezinski was referring to Miller’s statement to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday criticizing the ...

A Ku Klux Klan leader was reportedly found dead under suspicious circumstances near a rural river in Missouri after being reported missing by his employer. A body discovered on Saturday was identified as Frank Ancona, the self-proclaimed “imperial wizard” of a KKK chapter near St. Louis. The 51-year-old was last seen at his Leadwood home on Wednesday morning, his wife told authorities. Ancona's wife, Malissa Ancona, said he was called to work to make an out-of-state delivery. He packed a bag, took his guns and had not made contact with relatives since, according to the Daily Journal newspaper. Police said Ancona’s employer made no such call and reached out to ...

"I call my own shots" is exactly what someone who doesn't call his own shots would say. The nation's newest reality show has taken the country by storm. America's Got 1930s Germany Vibes seemed like a joke when it was first announced back in 2015. I mean, what were the odds that anyone would actually watch that? Well, it's now the number one show in the world (handily beating Arnold's version of The Apprentice) and it's got everything you could want: spilling secrets. Unhinged rants. The threat of a totalitarian regime lurking around every corner. And of course, secret plots from the people who are really pulling the strings. It's this last point ...

A CNN source told TheWrap on Monday that White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has “credibility issues” but will appear on the network “at some point.” The Trump administration offered Conway as an alternative to Vice President Mike Pence to appear on “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper on Sunday, but the network declined her appearance. “Kellyanne is not a substitute for the VP. That’s why SOTU declined. And more broadly… credibility issues. Although I’d expect to see her on at some point,” the CNN insider told TheWrap. Conway and CNN have battled on Twitter over the situation, with Conway writing “False. I could do no live ...

Steve Bannon Had to Be Reminded He Wasn’t the President

Chief White House strategist Steve Bannon tried to order Department of Homeland Security secretary John Kelly to not issue a waiver exempting green card holders from President Trump’s travel ban executive order, according to a new report in the Washington Post. Per two Trump administration officials who spoke with the Post’s Josh Rogin, Kelly ultimately rebuffed the attempt, telling Bannon that he only takes orders from the president. The president never weighed in, and Kelly went ahead and issued the waiver, which was made public on Sunday night. That waiver ended two full days of confusion and chaos around the question of whether or not permanent U.S. residents from the seven ...

The president’s inflamed tweets about Chelsea Manning and Chicago are activated by cable news, which he cannot seem to tear his eyes away from. Like Chance the Gardner, the television-obsessed simpleton who becomes a top presidential adviser in the political satire Being There, Donald Trump likes to watch TV. But unlike the character in Jerzy Kosinski’s 1970 novel and the 1979 movie adaptation, the 45th president of the United States also likes to kibitz in public and, more often than not, act on what he’s watching. “Other presidents have probably watched TV coverage more than they admitted, but this is unprecedented,” said political science professor Larry Sabato, ...

Trump won this little chunk of Los Angeles, where half of voters are linked to Scientology

It surprised no one last fall when Los Angeles and California at large overwhelmingly backed Hillary Clinton in her failed bid for the presidency. Just seven of the city’s 1,700 precincts went for Donald Trump. But while nearly all of the surrounding region voted for the Democratic former secretary of state, one little chunk of Hollywood best known for the Church of Scientology’s “Big Blue” complex went red, picking the Republican billionaire instead. The precinct, wedged between Hollywood Boulevard and Fountain Avenue, tipped to Trump by just three votes, 347 to 344. It marked the first time since at least 2000 that the area went Republican. In 2012, ...

The LP candidate didn't make the debates and didn't crack 5 percent. All he did was launch the beta version of 21st-century politics. Before we completely flush 2016 down the memory hole, let us pause to remember Gary Johnson, the former two-term governor of New Mexico who generated a record number of votes as the Libertarian Party's candidate for president. If there was anything good that happened in 2016—a year filled so much awfulness that even the Chicago Cubs could win the World Series after a thousand-year drought—it was @govgaryjohnson's ramshackle campaign to bring a very different way of thinking and talking about national politics to America. WASHINGTON A U.S. judge in Ohio ordered Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign on Friday not to intimidate voters as voting-rights advocates scored a string of last-minute victories in several politically competitive states. The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge James Gwin creates the possibility of fines or jail time for Trump allies who harass voters, a significant victory for Democrats who had worried the real-estate mogul was encouraging supporters to cause mayhem at the polls on Nov. 8.The ruling also deals a blow to a Trump-aligned "exit poll" that seeks to mobilize thousands of supporters. The Trump campaign appealed the decision. On the campaign ...

KINGSPORT — Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was one. So was Terry Nichols, his accomplice. Both were so-called “sovereign citizens” — anti-government people who’ve renounced their U.S. citizenship. Jerry Stout, special agent with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, was at the recent Tennessee Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities annual meeting to explain the sovereign citizen movement. “Why am I here talking to a group of housing professionals?” Stout asked during a meeting breakout session. “You’re government, and these people are anti- government.
