A Land Without Guns: How Japan Has Virtually Eliminated Shooting Deaths
Post Date: 2015-12-06 09:00:00 by Willie Green
In part by forbidding almost all forms of firearm ownership, the country has as few as two gun-related homicides a year. Ive heard it said that, if you take a walk around Waikiki, its only a matter of time until someone hands you a flyer of scantily clad women clutching handguns, overlaid with English and maybe Japanese text advertising one of the many local shooting ranges. The citys largest, the Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club, advertises instructors fluent in Japanese, which is also the default language of its website. For years, this peculiar Hawaiian industry has explicitly targeted Japanese tourists, drawing them away from beaches and resorts into shopping malls, to do ...

The man who is believed to have shot the two, Timothy Nelson Obeshaw, 57, fired rounds into the victims' vehicle and then turned the handgun on himself. Is it Time to Retire the Defensive Shotgun?

Is it Time to Retire the Defensive Shotgun? By CTD Blogger published on November 24, 2015 in Firearms With the AR-15 crowned as the new reigning champ of semiautomatic rifles, theres no doubt that the 5.56×45 is here to stay. These guns have never been cheaper, more reliable, or easier to customize. And the surging popularity of the defensive carbine has largely displaced the 12-gauge shotgun as the long gun of choice to keep handy for defense of hearth and home. The pump-action shotgun was at one time considered the first and only tool to reach for when things went bump in the night, but it definitely doesnt have the monopoly on protective force anymore. So, is the ...

Do citizens (not police officers) with guns ever stop mass shootings?
Post Date: 2015-12-05 07:20:42 by buckeroo
Backers of laws that let pretty much all law-abiding people carry concealed guns in public places often argue that these laws will sometimes enable people to stop mass shootings. Opponents occasionally ask: If thats so, what examples can one give of civilians armed with guns stopping such shootings? Sometimes, I hear people asking if even one such example can be found, or saying that they havent heard of even one such example. A while back I posted about a few examples, but since then there have been some more, so I thought Id note them. Naturally, such examples will be rare. Even in states which allow concealed carry, there often arent people near a shooting who ...
End the Gun Epidemic in America

It is a moral outrage and national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency. -- By THE EDITORIAL BOARD, DEC. 4, 2015 All decent people feel sorrow and righteous fury about the latest slaughter of innocents, in California. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are searching for motivations, including the vital question of how the murderers might have been connected to international terrorism. That is right and proper. But motives do not matter to the dead in California, nor did they in Colorado, Oregon, South Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut and far too many other places. The attention and anger of Americans ...
How I Evolved on Guns During the Boston Manhunt [Full Thread]

How I Evolved on Guns During the Boston Manhunt By Paula Bolyard April 22, 2013 In the wee hours of Friday morning, April 19th, I evolved on guns. First, a confession: Ive never owned a gun. I never wanted one in my home and, like a lot of moms, I wanted to raise non-violent children and thought keeping guns out of our home was one way to do that. When my kids were young, I didnt want them to play with toy guns in fact, I was rather insistent about it. Eventually, I realized that little boys will make guns out of just about anything bananas, sticks, the dogs paw, their fingers nothing is safe from their imaginative minds. So I compromised and ...
San Bernardino shooting victim from N.J. had argued politics with suspect, friend says
Post Date: 2015-12-04 12:05:18 by Willie Green
One of the victims in the San Bernardino massacre is a former New Jersey man who verbally sparred about Israel two weeks ago with a man whom police have identified as one of the shooters, a friend of the victim said Thursday in a telephone interview. Nicholas Thalasinos, 52, a health inspector who moved from Cape May County 13 years ago, enjoyed arguing about politics with his co-workers, the friend, Kuuleme Stephens, said. Stephens, who lives in Arizona, said she called Thalasinos on his cellphone two weeks ago as he argued with a co-worker whom he identified as Syed Farook. Authorities have said a man named Syed Rizwan Farook, who worked at the San Bernardino County Health Department ...
Hey Obama, Guns Deter Terrorists Here in Israel
Post Date: 2015-12-04 09:09:19 by cranky
JERUSALEM Theres an entire country that would probably differ with the White Houses off-key assertion that gun control will help deter terrorists. The latest so-called wave of terror in Israel has been a case study in how guns actually stop jihadist attacks. So much so that the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, asked residents with gun licenses to carry their weapons at all times. If you check, youll see that in many cases, those who neutralized terrorists were citizens who arent necessarily police officers, like former soldiers, he said. Last month, Israel eased restrictions on firearms possession across the country. The entire city of Jerusalem and ...
San Bernardino suspects' huge cache of bullets and bombs enough for 'another attack,' officials say
Post Date: 2015-12-03 16:42:43 by Willie Green
Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik -- the heavily armed couple who authorities say unleashed volleys of gunfire on a holiday party in San Bernardino -- had amassed an armory of weapons and explosives in their Redlands home, including a dozen pipe bombs and thousands of rounds of ammunition, officials said Thursday. The arsenal suggested a level of planning that added to investigators concern that Wednesday's shootings, which left 14 dead and 21 injured, were far more than a spontaneous response to a workplace dispute. Certainly they were equipped and they could have continued to do another attack

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) All licensed handgun owners in Ulster County should carry their pistols. Thats the message Thursday from the Ulster County Sheriff. Ulster County is located about two hours north of New York City. In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to please do so, wrote Sheriff Paul J. New Mass Shooting

NEW MASS SHOOTING This story has morphed in all aspects and is all over the map as "they" adjust it to circumvent discoveries. But I found the photo that proves the current version of the story is a lie. As I predicted last night, the shooters would end up being a husband and wife team, because the name they originally chose for the female shooter would cause political problems with Turkey. Additionally, This morning, all key elements about the male shooter being a health inspector who was present at a christmas party for autistic and disabled children up until 20 minutes before the shooting are gone because the think tanks could not come up with a way a man in a suit could get ...

For Robert Dear, Religion and Rage Before Planned Parenthood Attack
Post Date: 2015-12-01 20:33:33 by Willie Green
CHARLESTON, S.C. The man she had married professed to be deeply religious. But after more than seven years with Robert L. Dear Jr., Barbara Micheau had come to see life with him as a kind of hell on earth. By January 1993, she had had enough. In a sworn affidavit as part of her divorce case, Ms. Micheau described Mr. Dear as a serial philanderer and a problem gambler, a man who kicked her, beat her head against the floor and fathered two children with other women while they were together. He found excuses for his transgressions, she said, in his idiosyncratic views on Christian eschatology and the nature of salvation. He claims to be a Christian and is extremely evangelistic, ...

Conservatives' Planned Parenthood Response: Who Are You Calling a Radical Terrorist?
Post Date: 2015-12-01 15:42:35 by Willie Green
When the killer is a Christian, it seems, the rules are different. The rights reaction to the deadly holiday weekend shootout at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springsa white evangelical redoubt of a rapidly diversifying statefollowed a predictable trajectory through what you might call the five stages of information loop closure. First, denial, reflected in a reactive counter-consensus that the shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, was actually a bank robber taking refuge, not a terrorist. Second, anger at anyone who dared suggest that an unhinged gunman might have taken the rights dishonest anti-Planned Parenthood incitement campaign (remember this?) a bit too seriously. ...
What We Know About The Alleged Planned Parenthood Shooter
Post Date: 2015-11-29 10:29:36 by Willie Green
As Colorado Springs held vigils for those killed during a shooting rampage at a Planned Parenthood clinic, we are learning more about the alleged gunman and his possible motive. Police say Robert Lewis Dear, 57, killed three people and left nine wounded. A search of public records finds that Dear had several run-ins with the law. The records show nine criminal filings under his name: Two "personal intrusion" or peeping Tom or eavesdropping charges that were later dropped and he was acquitted of two animal cruelty charges. With that, here's what other news organizations have turned up about Dear: Dear 'Preferred to Be Left Alone' The New York Times ...
Planned Parenthood Shooting Suspect Made Comment About 'No More Baby Parts'
Post Date: 2015-11-28 20:23:14 by Willie Green
The day after a gunman killed three people and shot nine others at a Colorado Planned Parenthood office, officials tell NBC News a motive remains unclear, but say the suspect talked about politics and abortion. Robert Lewis Dear, a North Carolina native who was living in a trailer in Colorado, made statements to police Friday at the scene of the Colorado Springs clinic and in interviews that law enforcement sources described as rantings. In one statement, made after the suspect was taken in for questioning, Dear said "no more baby parts" in reference to Planned Parenthood, according to two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case. But the sources stressed that ...
WHAT’S THE CASE AGAINST CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY?
Post Date: 2015-11-28 16:48:11 by tpaine
www.gunsamerica.com WHATS THE CASE AGAINST CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY? Several states including Tennessee, Montana and Colorado, Texas are currently considering bills that would allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms without a permit. Constitutional or permitless carry, as its known, is already the law of the land in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Vermont and Wyoming. To the chagrin of gun-grabbers, none of those states with permitless concealed carry laws have descended into chaos. There is no widespread upheaval. There are no maundering hordes of armed miscreants. There appears to be no disruption to civilized society. Everything is pretty much as it was before the laws ...
Colorado Springs: a playground for pro-life, pro-gun Evangelical Christians
Post Date: 2015-11-28 09:06:58 by Willie Green
Colorado Springs, the location of an attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic that left three people dead, is a centre of rightwing Christian culture with a wild west mentality when it comes to guns. The attack, by a lone gunman carrying a rifle or shotgun, took place at a clinic that is the site of regular anti-abortion protests by the citys pro-life Christian groups. Planned Parenthood, aware of hostility about their work, recently moved to the new facility, hoping it would provide more security for staff. The building has been likened to a fortress by anti-abortion campaigners and Fridays attacks revealed that it is equipped with safe rooms for staff to ...
Appropriations Act Signed Into Law With Important Pro-Second Amendment Provisions
Post Date: 2015-11-27 16:50:42 by Roscoe
On Wednesday, November 25, the President signed S. 1356, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 into law. Included in the bill were some very important pro-gun provisions that represent the culmination of long-term efforts by your NRA to advance Second Amendment rights at the federal level... Rounding out the list of pro-gun provisions is section 1087, which restores authorization to the Secretary of Defense to transfer to the Civilian Marksmanship Program surplus M1911 and M1911A1 .45 ACP pistols for sale to the public. The component of the CMP that dispenses the pistols would be required to obtain a federal firearms license and abide by all requirements of the Gun ...
"That Doesn't Sound Like Me:" Chris Christie Surprised by Question About His Entering Politics To Block Efforts to Repeal "Assault Weapons" Ban; Claims to Not Remember It Happening Either Way
Post Date: 2015-11-26 02:31:16 by Tooconservative
The Star Ledger (of NJ) said that he had told them this, and reported it long ago. Christie says "That doesn't sound like me" and claims a failure of memory. Obviously, Bret Baier did not promise him a "no surprises" interview. A look of panic spread across Christies face. "Yeah, I don't remember saying that. So, you know, well see," he said. Just then, a quote appeared on the screenone Christie gave to the Star-Ledger in April 1993--that would seem to contradict his answer. "The issue which has motivated me to get into this race is the recent attempt by certain Republican legislators to repeal New Jerseys ban on assault ...

House Republicans Introduce Bill to Ensure TSA Accepts Gun Permits as IDs
Post Date: 2015-11-21 05:11:59 by Roscoe
House Republicans introduced a bill earlier this week that would require the Transportation Security Administration to accept certain gun carry permits as valid forms of identification. The Nondiscriminatory Transportation Screening Act, introduced by Reps. Diane Black (R., Tenn.) and Bill Flores (R., Texas), would reverse TSA policy regarding the permits. TSA policy currently excludes gun permits as an acceptable form of ID. A weapon permit is not an acceptable form of identification, the TSAs guide on identification states. Click for Full Text!
New Bill Would Force Americans To Pay $100 Tax On Every Gun
Post Date: 2015-11-19 07:34:29 by Stoner
New Bill Would Force Americans To Pay $100 Tax On Every Gun A U.S. congresswoman plans to introduce a bill later this week that would require a $100 tax on all gun sales nationwide. If the bill is passed by Congress, the revenue made off of the tax will go toward mental health and anti-violence programs. Democratic Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, from New York, announced the federal legislation called Reducing Gun Violence in our Neighborhoods Act at NYCs City Hall on Monday, according to the New York Daily News. The bill plans to curb the number of guns bought and sold across the country, while generating tax revenue that will be distributed by the Justice Department to ...
