‘GunMeggedon’ in California With More Gun, Magazine Bans
Post Date: 2016-04-21 09:02:02 by Stoner
22 Comments
California lawmakers launched a full frontal assault on the state’s few remaining Second Amendment freedoms by passing more gun restrictions and magazine bans out of committee on Tuesday. The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) described the April 19 assault as “GunMeggedon,” and warns that gun control in California is poised to pass a point of no return. Ten gun control bills were under consideration, eight of which survived their first vote and now move “to their respective Appropriations Committee.” FPC reports what the “GunMeggedon” bills do: AB 2510 eliminates uniformity for CCW permits, putting permit holders and law enforcement at greater risk. SB ...

Taxpayer advocate warns taxes could kill the 2nd Amendment

A massive new handgun tax imposed in one U.S. territory could serve as a blueprint for Democrats to ban firearms throughout the country without being shut down by the Constitution. Late last month, a federal judge ruled unconstitutional a 40-year-old total ban on handguns in the Northern Mariana Islands. In the ruling, the judge declared: “[B]ecause the people of the Commonwealth are part of the American people who have overwhelmingly chosen handguns as their principal means of self-defense, the Second Amendment protects that right here as well.” In response to the judge’s order, the territory’s governing body worked out another way to deny residents’ 2nd ...

Two University of South Alabama students were confronted by campus police Wednesday, and one student was cited for “causing alarm” by wearing an empty holster. “This week is the empty holster protest for Students for Concealed Carry in Alabama to demonstrate that students are defenseless on campus,” D.J. Parten, president of Students for Concealed Carry, told Campus Reform. Along with fellow club member Kenneth Tews, Parten was also promoting an upcoming screening of the movie Can We Take a Joke? when three campus police officers approached their table demanding identification. Video footage, obtained by Campus Reform, shows one of the police officers asking to ...

WA GUN OWNERS STAGE THE LARGEST FELONY CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE RALLY IN AMERICA’S HISTORY We Are Change gun_rights_march_washington-680x365 Around 1,000 gun owners rallied at the state capitol in Olympia, WA, openly armed, this past Saturday in defiance of the newly passed gun control law, I-594. “This isn’t just a protest. We are here to openly violate the law,” stated Gavin Seim, organizer of the event, named ‘I Will Not Comply’. At the end of the rally, gun owners burned their concealed weapons permits and signed a petition vowing to refuse to follow the new gun control law. The petition ended with the text, “We pledge our blood. We will not ...

Does Carrying A Pistol Make You Safer?

There is a pistol-packing revolution going on in America. Nearly 13 million Americans have permits to carry concealed handguns — triple the number just nine years ago — and that figure is low because not every state reports. It's puzzling that so many Americans are choosing to arm themselves at a time when the FBI tells us violent crime and property crime have been falling dramatically for two decades. In search of handgun permit holders, I drove out to the Texas Firearms Festival, an outdoor gun extravaganza held near Austin where firearms fanciers get to shoot everything they see. "If you're in Paris and you see people coming with AKs into your rock concert, that ...

PA residents have tried to buy 97 guns every hour

In the past three months, Pennsylvania residents have tried to buy 97 firearms every hour. Additionally, the number of requests this quarter through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is up 26 percent from last year. Since PICS was established in 1998, the number of background checks has incrementally increased from 200,000 at it inception to over a million by 2013. That was mostly due to the post-Sandy Hook talk about gun control (via Penn Live): Every hour during the months of January, February and March, more than 97 people attempted to buy or transfer ownership of a gun in Pennsylvania. And those are just the legal transactions. According to the state police firearms report, ...

Fairborn Municipal Court Judge Beth Root has just decided that there is in fact probable cause to prosecute Ronald T. Ritchie for lying to a 9-1-1 dispatcher about John Crawford, in August of 2014. Shortly after Ritchie’s call from the Beavercreek, Ohio Walmart on Pentagon Avenue, John Crawford III was gunned down by Officer Sean Williams who entered the store armed with an AR-15 assault rifle and ready for nothing short of war, based on Ritchies lies. Crawford was shot by police in an aisle of the Beavercreek Walmart on August 5, 2014. He was legally holding a BB gun that he picked up off the shelf of the Walmart at the time. Local WDTN News reports the following: Nine citizens ...

Gavin Newsom: Ammunition ‘The Most Dangerous Part’ of a Gun

Californian Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom is hitching his 2018 gubernatorial campaign to a statewide ballot proposal that would sharply restrict the sale of ammunition. “It seems to me the most dangerous part of the weapon is not the weapon itself, it’s the ammunition,” he said April 1. He wants anyone buying ammunition to endure a background check similar to the one that would-be gun buyers currently have to pass to buy a firearm. According to the Press Democrat, Newsom, speaking at the Graton casino, told a story about being denied a Sudafed cold medicine purchase because he did not have a driver’s license to show at the pharmacy counter. He suggested it is strange ...

The Army just bought a new sniper rifle. The service on Friday announced that it awarded a contract to Heckler & Koch to supply a precision rifle to replace the M110 made by Knight’s Armament. The Army wanted to acquire a shorter, lighter, more accurate, more ergonomic and more reliable gun for marksmen, according to Program Executive Office Soldier’s product portfolio. The new Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System should be easier to carry and use in close quarters than the M110 without sacrificing performance or accuracy, PEO said. The FedBizOpps.gov award notice said H&K will produce a maximum of 3,643 rifles over 24 months, as well as spare parts and depot support, ...

On Friday, March 25, Governor Butch Otter signed SB 1389, making Idaho the ninth state to adopt constitutional carry (aka unrestricted carry or permitless carry). Back in the day, we knew this as Vermont carry, after the one-and-only state whose residents were legally free to tuck guns in their pockets or purses or under their clothing without first asking their state government for permission. Vermont had been that way for generations. And for all those generations, they remained alone. But now … oh my. In some ways Idaho’s bill isn’t a huge change from its existing laws. Idaho residents already had constitutional carry outside city limits; SB 1389 merely extended it to ...

Injury sustained after lawnmower filled with tannerite explodes into a lethal mass of flying debris when struck by high-powered bullet The three friends no doubt thought shooting at an old lawnmower would be a fun way of exercising America’s gun ownership rights. This footage shows the moment when 23-year-old David Presley is struck by debris from the machine after firing at it with a high-powered rifle at close range. Unanimous pro-Second-Amendment stun gun decision from the Supreme Court By Eugene Volokh March 22 at 8:16 AM In Commonwealth v. Caetano, The Massachusetts high court upheld Massachusetts’ total ban on stun gun possession. Yesterday’s Caetano v. Massachusetts decision from the Supreme Court reversed that Massachusetts decision and sent the case back to the Massachusetts court for further review (presumably to consider, for instance, whether the ban may still be justified by some sufficiently important government interest): The Court has held that “the Second Amendment extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in ...

Must Pack Heat: The Case for Mandating Gun Ownership. With the rise of terrorism, one can easily make the case that a disarmed populace is a luxury we can no longer afford. By Michael Malice • 03/14/16 9:10am America has reached a point where political discourse is close-to-impossible. Nowhere are our views as immutable as on the issue of guns. From one perspective, guns are an enormous social harm that must be relegated to trained professionals and law enforcement. In this context, the stigmatization of guns is a wise one. A population that is comfortable around guns is a population that is comfortable using them—and sometimes using them on innocent people. Therefore, the ...

In 1948, the U.S. Army formed the Operations Research Office (ORO) to study and evaluate the effectiveness of infantry arms during the recently concluded Second World War. Foremost among the conclusions reached by the ORO was that most infantry engagements took place at 300 meters or less. It was determined that volume of fire was more important than aimed shots and that our military would be better served by infantry weapons with low recoil, firing smaller-caliber, higher-velocity projectiles. The standard M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle and its potent .30 Springfield (.30-’06 Sprg.) cartridge were deemed too heavy and unnecessarily powerful for the average infantry engagement. While ...

The paper, "Firearm Violence and Effects on Concealed Gun Carrying: Large Debate and Small Effects," found there is a consistent link between violent crime—especially crimes that involve guns—and an increase in the number of people issued carry permits over two time periods examined in the study, said Jeremy Carter, an assistant professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. While the link is ...

The assailant, identified by police Friday as Cedric Larry Ford, was armed with an assault rifle and semi-automatic pistol during the "mass shooting" in Newton and Hesston, nearby towns about 30 miles north of Wichita, authorities said. The shooting spree spanned six miles and covered three crime scenes — lasting just 26 minutes from when the gunman shot and injured a person at about 5 p.m. local time (6 p.m. ET) and stole a truck, until the first police officer on the scene shot him dead. He is also charged with misdemeanor negligent handling of a weapon. A horse was found dead, with a head wound, in a nearby pasture the day the barn damage ...

NASHVILLE — Tennessee now has an official gun, but you'd just be firing blanks if you think it's Davy Crockett's "Old Betsy" flintlock or the M1917 Enfield rifle famously used by Sgt. Alvin York during World War I. Instead, the state Senate gave final approval and made a modern-day Tennessee-manufactured rifle, now used by U.S. military snipers, its official rifle. Senators voted 27-1 for House Joint Resolution 231. It designates the Barrett Model M82/M107, a recoil-operated, .50-caliber, semi-automatic rifle developed by Tennessee native Ronnie Barrett as the Volunteer State's official rifle. Barrett is owner of the Christiana, Tenn.-based Barrett Firearms ...
